Stupid advertising

I don't listen to Nova FM much, but I was stuck with it the other day, and heard a promotion that went something like this:

"We play 50% less ads than any other station, so we can play 50% more music."

Sounds like someone can't add up, or has a problem with percentages. If you crunch the numbers, the only way this works is if another radio station plays 30 minutes of ads per hour and 30 minutes of music.

I know of no such station.

Assuming your average station plays 40 minutes of music and 20 minutes of ads, if you play only 50% as many ads as them, then you only play 10 minutes per hour.

However, if you claim to play 50% more music, then you are playing an additional 20 minutes per hour. If you add that up, you end up with an hour that is 70 minutes long.

I'm submitting a complaint.
