Vegemite consumption

Back on January 5, I posted in regard to the purchase of a fresh 400gm jar of Vegemite. I wondered at the time how long it would last - I figured it would last about 2 months.

Well, here we are 2 months later, and there is about one sandwich's worth of Vegemite left in that jar. Just to horrify my American readers, that means we are on track to consume 5 pounds of the black muck this year.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

How long does it take to demolish a jar of Vegemite?

We seem to eat an awful lot of Vegemite in this household, so for my American readers, I am going to time how long it takes to demolish this 400gm jar - that's 14 ounces. This one will be opened tomorrow at the latest - I don't give it more than 2 months.

Given that we work our way through at least 6 jars of this size per year, that means we're consuming about 5 pounds of the black stuff per year.

Ponder that, next time an Aussie tries to feed you some on a slice of bread.
