What is in white bread these days?

ur toaster has a dial that allows you to change how much toasting you give your bread. It goes up to 6 (This toaster was not designed by a fan of Spinal Tap). When I toast normal Tip Top mush, we set it to 3.5 and watch it like a hawk to ensure that it doesn't burn.

When I make my own bread, I have to toast it twice. It takes about 3 times the toasting of store bought bread. That's even when I slice my bread into wafer thin slices. Even then, the crust starts burning before the middle is properly toasted.

I'd like to know what the difference is, since all my bread contains is flour, water, yeast and salt.
