Car imports crater

Unfortunately, as I have not been riding into town over the Anzac Bridge for some months, I have been unable to guage the impact of the current financial situation on car imports by the most reliable known indicator - the number of vehicles backed up on the docks at White Bay. When I was last regularly doing that ride, the docks were completely covered in cars. They were overflowing into every nook and cranny, even onto docks on the other side of the harbour.

I had a good look yesterday.

The yard looked about 40% full.

Not a good sign. Where once the wharfies used to have trouble tying up two car carriers back to back, and then finding a spot on the dock for a car; and where truck drivers coming to collect the cars had an interesting time navigating the traffic jams of car carriers, now we have enough space for a few games of 20/20 cricket to be played on the docks. Along with about 10,000 spectators.

I will try and do a ride out to the car yards on Paramatta Rd sometime this weekend - in order to see how many are going into liquidation. Personally, I'd like to see them all go bust, so the state government could buy up the vacant lots and widen the road as it should be.

LOLz
Don't be silly, Boy.

They'll buy up the land.

Widen the road.

And make them bus lanes.

Har, har, har!

(I was gonna say bike lanes, but that'd be good for you, non?)
