What roll does a dictionary play at the SMH?

The sub-editors at the SMH must be having a really hard time of late. Or they had a big night out last night. Check out this story from the paper this morning:

The driver of the Soarer lost control and crashed into a telegraph pole on Lenore Lane in Erskine Park, causing the car to role six times.

Dictionary.com gives this definition of role:

–noun
1.a part or character played by an actor or actress.
2.proper or customary function: the teacher's role in society.
3.Sociology. the rights, obligations, and expected behavior patterns associated with a particular social status.

And this is the same paper that features an education correspondent on a regular basis. Or should that be edumacation?

Disney must be making a sequel to Cars - and this driver tried out for a part six times, only to be knocked back by a power pole.

I see a lot of women driving Soarers (there's one with vanity plates who parks in my street occasionally).

Nice cars, the apparent appeal to women though is a turn-off.
