For Bruce - some canals

Five Wog is not the Venice of the West.

But look in the bottom left hand corner - is that another shopping trolley that I spy?

Bruce - this is the cricket oval at Timbrell Park you were thinking of.

And the cricket nets.

This is the canal beside Timbrell Park - currently undergoing a cleanup.

Like I said, it ain't the Venice of the West.

Thank you.

Mucho apprecianado, Xie Xie, Koti Danyavad, Arigato...

Confess I had a thing for these canals as a kid - used to wander up and down them. Much deterioration since my days tho.

Can't remember any nets in my day, must be a later innovation. Also it was much drier with thin patchy grass, no trees.

AND we only had one ball, ok maybe two... (I can do a good Granpa Simpson act)

The school was in an old church in Haberfield shops right on Ramsay Rd - long since demolished.

Had a High School rock band, our only paying gig was a 21st in Rodd Point Rowers (1973?). My amp conked out halfway thru the first song (and I was only a backup guitar anyway) so I mimed a Hendrix act with my guitar - 'playing' with my teeth, rolling around... audience came up later and said 'Wow, you're really good'. The roar of the greasepaint, the smell of the crowd, as they say.

(Cicada that ate Five Dock)

Some sights of F/D are background in that video. The final bit is in the old Croydon brick pits which are now a housing developmnt.

Misspent youth?
